Keep discussions in the #channel

❌ Please don't do this:

You: Hey, can I ask you about that bug we were discussing in #channel?
Them: Sure, what's up?
You: I'm having the same issue, how did you fix it?

✅ Do this instead:

You: @username I'm having the same bug issue you mentioned earlier. Could you share how you fixed it? Others might benefit from the solution too!
Them: Sure! I fixed it by updating the config file. Here's what worked...
Someone else: This helped me too, thanks! 🙏

Why?

  • Knowledge sharing: When you keep discussions public, everyone in the group can learn from the conversation.
  • Avoid duplicates: Others with the same question can see it's already been answered.
  • Context preservation: Important discussions don't get lost in private messages.
  • Transparency: Public discussions foster an open, collaborative environment.
  • Searchable: Future group members can search for and find past solutions.

When DMing is okay:

  • Personal or sensitive matters
  • Private feedback or concerns
  • Scheduling or coordination that doesn't affect the group
  • Off-topic conversations

Help make group discussions more valuable for everyone.
